Cibei Nunnery


Taoran Pavilion Park and cibei Nunnery are not only a beautiful resort but a precious museum and a important reservation unit in Beijing.

CiBei Nunnery is an ancient temple built in yuan Dynasty of a long history of more than 780 years . There are four small yards in the yard and a gate facing east. The three open halls in the west of the temple are Taoran Pavilion. The building which has on area of 2700 square meters was required in 1695 by a minister named Jiang Zao. There are many spots such as guan-yi hall, zhun-ti hall, wen hang pavilion, Taoran Pavilion and so on many officials and intelligedce often came to have a party since Qing Dynasty .In recent time, especially after may fouth movement, many revolutionists such as Li Da Zhao ,Mao Ze Dong,Zhou En Lai lead revolutionary activities here and made here a commemorative relics.

In the ere of liberation, the park and its surroundings had been basically wasted and ruined, with dirty pools and abandoned graves scattered every where"CI BEI" Buddhist convent saw a revival in 1952.Following its reconstruction, the Taoran Pavilion has opened to the public. As a place of revolutionary memorial, the convent was renovated in 1978.There are two Memorial Rooms for Li Da Zhao, Zhou En Lai doing patriotic movement, the halls of revolutionary exhibition for temple history added relics, stele Inscription Room and any other halls in the cibei Nunnery .And the historical site of the Jin Dynasty and the Liao Dynasty Buddhist scripture stone pillar were preserved, the history of more than 900 years. Two cultural relies not only showed a long history ,valuable with historical significance, but also explained the importance of its location that could be studied as determining the actual old site of Beijing.
