Taoran Pavilion


The three open halls in the west yard are Tanran Pavilion .Taoran Pavilion is a famous pavilion in the Qing Dynasty and one of the four renowned pavilions in china During the 34th year of the KANGXI'S reign, the Aing Dynasty, Jiang Zao. Then the minister of construction, and the supervisor for the imperial dilns, had it build in CI-BEI-AN Nunnery, he named it in two chiese charavter "TAO RAN", adapted from the poem"Till chrysanthemum turn yellow and wine vintaged .let's have a cup, intoxicating, but contented." The poem was cpmposed by BAI JU YI,one of the great poets of the TANG Dynasty, the whole park is thus named after it. Taoran Pavilion has three rooms, total area of the temple covers 90 square meters. There are many stone inscriptions on the south and north walls of the pavilion.

After the construction was completed, Jiang Zao often invited his friends here to have a party. Taoran Pavilion is a habit for literati of different times. They left a lot of poems and essays to us. Qiu Jin and Gong Zi Zhen are among them.
